What Does the Latest Elon Musk Biography Contain?

World’s richest person, Elon Musk, 52, granted renowned biographer Walter Isaacson (author of Steve Jobs biography), unprecedented access to his life, leading to the upcoming book "Elon Musk" (ed. September 12). The book provides insight into Musk's notable achievements and failures, including the transformation of Tesla, the founding of SpaceX, and the acquisition of Twitter, which he renamed X, thereby influencing politics and American culture.

Elon Musk is one of the most captivating and controversial figures of our time. Isaacson's biography offers an in-depth look at Musk's life and career, highlighting his genius, drive, and passion to change the world. The story begins with Musk's early days in South Africa and follows his journey from Queen's University in Canada to founding successful companies like PayPal, SpaceX, and Tesla.

Here’s a taste of what Walter Isaacson talks about in the buzzy biography.

Musk being bullied as a child.

When Elon Musk was growing up in his native South Africa, a schoolyard bully stepped on his head, causing injuries that required decades of corrective surgery. The worst part? His father, Errol Musk, sided with his attacker, berating Elon for an hour.“He yelled at me, called me stupid, and told me I was useless,” Musk said.

But at age 12, Musk learned an important lesson at a wilderness survival camp: “If someone harasses me, I can punch them in the nose really hard and they won't harass me anymore.

He has a very dark side

“He is attracted to chaotic evil,” said singer Grimes, a former associate of Musk. “He associates love with being mean or abusive,” she told Isaacson. For example, Musk asked her to be ashamed of him for being fat. Grimes said that when he went into "demon mode", he "became dark and retreated into the storm in his brain". The demon regime causes a lot of chaos. But it also gets shit done.

His relationship with another tech titan:

A portion of the biography focuses on Musk’s relationship with Bill Gates, including their meeting at a Tesla factory. The tour turned sour when Musk told the Microsoft co-founder, a notable philanthropist, that most philanthropy is “bullshit” and grilled him on why he had shorted Tesla stock. Grimes’s take on their dynamic was, “I imagine it’s a little bit of a d*ck-measuring contest.”

The extent of Musk’s influence and power via Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, and X:

It’s not a surprise that Musk’s world-changing companies occupy significant space in his biography, but what may be news to non-Musk scholars is what Musk genuinely believes about them.

  • Musk called Tesla “the company doing the most to solve climate change,” when Gates told him batteries would never power large semitrucks.

  • He built SpaceX with the explicit goal of turning humanity into a multi-planetary species, even hosting meetings about future governance…on Mars.

  • Musk created Starlink, which made headlines this month for the book’s revelations about its role in Ukraine’s fight against Russia, to generate profit while he worked on the whole interplanetary thing.

  • He was so committed to his “hardcore” takeover of Twitter (now X) that he hired moving vans to transfer the company’s servers from one data center to another on Christmas Eve.

Novel Tires

Introducing the novel tire, a tire which uses nitinol from Smart Tire Company. Nitinol is a metal alloy of nickel and titanium that can reform to its original shape when heated or cooled. This means that the tire can adapt to different terrains, weather and driving styles, giving you a smoother and safer ride.

But how does it work? The tire has a thin layer of nitinol wires embedded in the rubber. These wires are connected to sensors that detect the temperature, pressure and speed of the tire. When the sensors detect a change in the environment, they send a signal to a microcontroller that activates a heating or cooling system. This changes the shape of the nitinol wires, which in turn changes the shape of the tire. For example, if the road is wet, the tire becomes more rounded and grooved to increase traction. If the road is dry, the tire becomes flatter and smoother to reduce friction and improve fuel efficiency.

Sounds amazing, right? The tires are compatible with most cars and trucks, plus, they are eco-friendly, as they reduce emissions and waste. Get ready to experience the future of driving with nitinol tires!
